Target maximum file size

For very small targets, the tool may reduce image dimensions to fit your selected KB limit.

How to compress an image to 20KB, 50KB or 100KB

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Choose a target size such as 20KB, 50KB, 100KB or 200KB.
  3. Click Compress Image, check the actual output size, and download.

Can every image reach the exact size?

No. The target is a maximum file size, not an exact byte count. Complex photos and very small targets may require reduced dimensions or visible quality loss. The tool tells you if it cannot meet the requested size.

Can I resize a signature or passport photo?

You can compress an existing signature or passport photo to a smaller KB size. This tool does not automatically crop photos or certify official document requirements.

Are my images private?

Yes. Image processing runs in your browser using Canvas. The tool does not send your image to a server.

How can I compress an image to under 50KB for an online form?

Upload your image, select the 50 KB preset, and click Compress Image. Check the displayed output size before downloading. Some images need reduced quality or dimensions to fit.

Image size compression guide

Use this free browser-based image compressor when an application form, website or document portal specifies a maximum image file size. Choose 20KB, 50KB, 100KB, 200KB or enter a custom KB limit. The output is intended to be at or below your selected limit when compression succeeds.

Which target size should you choose?

JPG, PNG or WebP: which works best?

JPG is often suitable for photographs. WebP can produce smaller files at comparable visual quality in supported browsers. PNG is useful for graphics and transparency, but its lossless encoding may make very small file-size limits difficult to reach.

Quality and privacy

Smaller files can mean reduced image detail. Always inspect the downloaded result before submitting it to an official portal. Image processing happens in your browser; the selected image is not uploaded to NextGad by this tool.

Frequently asked questions

Does the tool make an image exactly 50KB?

No. It aims to produce an image no larger than your chosen limit, rather than an exact byte count. The actual output size is shown after processing.

Can I compress a JPG to 20KB without losing quality?

Not always. A 20KB limit can require reducing quality or dimensions, especially for detailed photos. Review the result before using it.

Can I compress a PNG to 100KB?

You can try. PNG compression is lossless in this tool, so some images cannot reach 100KB. Choose JPG or WebP if transparency is not required and smaller output is more important.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. This tool processes your image locally in your browser. You can download the result directly to your device.

Can I use it for a passport photo or signature?

You can reduce the file size of an existing photo or signature. Check the receiving website’s rules for dimensions, background, format and file size; this tool does not verify official compliance.
